How it is calculated

Money goes in at the start of each month and everything grows at a steady monthly rate that matches the yearly return; the calculator watches the value month by month.

  • Monthly growth rate = (1 + yearly return) raised to the power of 1 ÷ 12, minus 1
  • Each month = growth = (value so far + monthly amount) × monthly rate, added to the value
  • Growth overtakes your money = the first month in which value − total put in reaches the total put in
  • Compounding beats your monthly amount = the first month in which that month’s growth reaches the monthly amount
  • Milestones = the first month in which the value reaches each round amount and your target
  • After tax = value − 30% of (value − total put in), if you sell everything at the end

Frequently asked questions

Short answers on how a crypto investment grows over time.

How an investment grows month by month and when compounding starts doing the heavy lifting. Starting with ₹1,00,000 and adding ₹10,000 a month at 15% a year, you would have ₹1,49,07,388.14 after 20 years from ₹25,00,000 put in. The table shows when you pass ₹10 lakh, ₹50 lakh and ₹1 crore along the way.

It is the point where the growth you have earned is as big as everything you have put in, so half your value is growth. In the example that happens after 8 years 3 months. After that, growth is the larger part of your money and keeps pulling further ahead.

It is the point where a single month’s growth is more than you add each month, so the investment adds more to itself than you do. In the example, once the value reaches about ₹8.8 lakh, after 4 years 3 months, each month’s growth at 15% a year is more than ₹10,000.

Because each one is reached from a bigger base. In the example it takes 4 years 9 months to reach ₹10 lakh, but only 4 years more to go from ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh, and 4 years 4 months from there to ₹1 crore, even though each jump is bigger in rupees.

It assumes you sell everything at the end and pay India’s flat 30% tax on the growth, plus 4% cess, with no tax on a loss. The 1% TDS and exchange fees are not included. For the full tax on a sale, use the India Crypto Tax Calculator.

There is no reliable figure for crypto. Prices can rise or fall by more than half in a year, and a steady rate is a simplification. Try a cautious rate and a hopeful one; at a lower return every milestone comes later. To see how uneven years change things, use the Crypto Compound Growth Calculator.

The Crypto Investment Calculator gives a year-by-year projection. The Crypto Monthly Investment Calculator works out the monthly amount for a goal. This one shows when your money reaches each milestone and when compounding takes over from your own payments.
