Short answers on turning US dollars into Bitcoin.
Divide by the Bitcoin price. At $100,000 a Bitcoin, $100 buys 0.001 BTC, which is 100,000 satoshis. With a 0.5% fee, $99.50 goes into Bitcoin, so you get 0.000995 BTC, or 99,500 satoshis. Use the live price button for today’s figure.
Because of fees. Most exchanges take a percentage of each purchase, and instant-buy screens often add a spread to the price as well. In the example, $500 with a 0.5% fee buys 0.004975 BTC, so you effectively pay $100,502.51 per Bitcoin, not $100,000. For every fee on a purchase in India, including GST and withdrawal fees, use the Bitcoin Fee Calculator.

Use the Crypto → USD Converter. It turns an amount of Bitcoin, or another coin, into dollars at a live or typed price. This page works the other way, from dollars to Bitcoin.
Enter how many rupees one dollar costs, and the page shows the dollars in rupees and the Bitcoin price in rupees. At ₹88 a dollar, $500 is ₹44,000 and a $100,000 Bitcoin is ₹88,00,000. Indian exchanges quote Bitcoin in rupees, and their price can be a little above or below the dollar price converted at the bank rate.
Buying is not taxed, but selling is. A gain on selling Bitcoin is taxed at a flat 30% plus 4% cess, and Indian exchanges deduct 1% TDS on the sale. Sending money abroad to buy on a foreign exchange can also involve remittance rules and tax collected by your bank, so check with your bank first. The Bitcoin Tax Calculator works out the tax on a sale.
